Key Concepts
Ratio, Proportion & Mixture for SSC GD & Agniveer
Ratio compares two quantities. Proportion states two ratios are equal. Mixture problems involve combining ingredients. These are important topics for SSC GD and Agniveer mathematics sections.
Key Concepts
Ratio: a:b = a/b. Equivalent ratios: multiply/divide both terms by same number. Proportion: If a:b = c:d, then ad = bc (cross-multiplication). Alligation Rule: (Cheaper quantity) : (Dearer quantity) = (Mean - Cheaper) : (Dearer - Mean). Used to find mixing ratios. Mixture Replacement: When a quantity is removed and replaced, remaining fraction of original = 1 - (replaced/total).
Solved Examples
Example 1
If A:B = 2:3 and B:C = 4:5, find A:C.
a) 8:15 b) 8:12 c) 2:5 d) 3:5
a) 8:15 b) 8:12 c) 2:5 d) 3:5
Solution: a) 8:15. Make B common: A:B = 2:3 = 8:12, B:C = 4:5 = 12:15. So A:C = 8:15.
