What is Indian Geography?
Indian Geography for SSC CGL covers the physical features (rivers, mountains, plains, coasts), climate patterns (monsoons, seasons), natural resources (soils, minerals, forests), and economic geography (agriculture, industries, transportation).

1. Physical Divisions: The Himalayas (Great Himalayas, Lesser Himalayas, Shiwaliks — transverse divisions: Kashmir, Himachal, Garhwal, Kumaon, Nepal, Assam Himalayas), Northern Plains (Indus-Ganga-Brahmaputra basins), Peninsular Plateau (Central Highlands, Deccan Plateau), Indian Desert (Thar), Coastal Plains (Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats), Islands (Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep).
2. River Systems: Himalayan Rivers (Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra — perennial, glacier-fed) and Peninsular Rivers (Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, Mahanadi, Narmada, Tapi — seasonal, rain-fed).
3. Climate & Monsoon: India has a tropical monsoon climate. Southwest Monsoon (June-September) brings most rainfall. Retreating Monsoon (October-December). Factors: El Niño, La Niña, ITCZ, Jet Streams.
4. Agriculture: Major crops — Rice (Kharif), Wheat (Rabi), Sugarcane, Cotton, Jute, Tea, Coffee. Green Revolution (1960s) — high-yield varieties, fertilizers, Punjab & Haryana benefited most.

Shortcut Techniques
- Remember the Seven Sister States: 'AMNMT' — Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura + Manipur, Assam (not a true sister but included). Mnemonic: 'All Mizo Nagas Meet Tripura' — add Arunachal, Manipur, Assam.
- For soil types and states: Alluvial (UP, Bihar, Punjab, WB), Black/Regur (Maharashtra, MP, Gujarat — cotton), Red (TN, Karnataka, Andhra), Laterite (Kerala, Karnataka, Goa).
